Mike completed his schooling at Deutsche Schule Hermannsburg in 1982, after which he went to the army. With a keen interest in electronics from an early age, he decided to pursue his dreams in this field. He attended Wits Tech, where he studied for 3 years. His final year saw him relocate to Cape Town Tech where he completed his higher National Diploma. He graduated with a S4 in Electrical Engineering Light Current.
Moving back up to JHB, he procured a job with Siemens, which saw him in ‘Process Computers’. He was with Siemens for 9 years, when an opportunity arose for him to further himself with a move to Unisys, doing repairs and field work. This included retail automation, workshop and test lab work. After 12 years here, he was offered a retrenchment package as there was no further room for growth, he took it.
Finding himself with a choice of seeking further employment or following his two passions in life, which were electronics and music. Luckily, he chose the latter and opened up a small one man enterprise working with audio equipment at Marshal Music in Wendywood. In 2012 Mzee joined forces with Mike whilst he was there. Five years on, Mike was approached to open up shop in TOMS in Braamfontein, with much more space, and a few more members to his team. He has been in Braamfontein for 1.5 years so far, with many more to come!
Mike is also a keen musician and has been performing for 5 years in a duo in and around Gauteng, and occasionally touring South Africa.
There are many different avenues which Soundbyte are looking in to venturing into, in the not so distant future, so watch this space!
